Schoolgirls for Sale in Japan

The Girls Club watched a documentary, "Schoolgirls for Sale in Japan" by Vice, which explains the situation of the JK—'joshikousei' or high school girls—Business in Japan.

Many Japanese high school girls have become victims of the JK Business through sexual harassment, assault, and human trafficking.

The members of the Girls Club were devastated and wanted to help the victims, prevent another girl from becoming a victim, and put an end to the JK Business.

A step we took was to donate to Lighthouse, a non-profit organization that works to "eliminate the issue of human trafficking, especially sex trafficking."

In order to raise money for Lighthouse and educate our community about the JK Business, the Girls Club held the Lighthouse Basketball Night in February 2019.

The event was very successful as many students participated in our basketball shoot-off during the half time, and we were able to raise money through our homemade kimbap and baked goods that we sold in the concession stand.
